NUTS MAGAZINE
Crossplatform was asked to produce two augmented reality promotions for IPC's Nuts Magazine.
The publishers asked Crossplatform to create two AR promotions for the magazine's yound male readership.
The first promotion involved a peice by India Reynolds, a popular model with Nuts readers, who welcomed readers to the concept of augmented reality and invited them to blow into their microphones hard enough to remove her top.
Peter Cashmore, Nuts editor-at-large, commented on the promotion “Nuts is renowned for driving innovation in the young men’s sector, everything from our unique 3D issue earlier this year – a first for the weekly sector – to our hugely successful new Smartphone site.
“I don’t understand how it works – at all – just that Crossplatform have put magic in those pages to create yet another entirely new experience for the readers. If this is how the future is going to look, then Britain’s menfolk are going to be very happy indeed.”
The second promotion involved the launch of the Assasins' Creed console game and enabled readers to hold a double page spread up to their webcams in order to view trailers for the game prior to its launch.
The India promotion was particularly innovative, requiring audio recognition to be built into the mechanic, combined with video editing. The response to both promotions is being measured using website analytics software. Initial results are looking good.
Nick Brown, CEO of Crossplatform explains, "Both promotions really demonstrate the power of augmented reality to make waves within the publishing sector. We are delighted that IPC have embraced the concept with such enthusiasm and can see the benefits of the medium. Technically the Nuts promotion was very innovative, using sound to trigger an online AR experience, but both promotions were perfectly aimed at their target audience."
